This 63” x 34” triple-track Figure 8 layout lets you run three trains at a time: two on the outer mainline tracks and one on the inner loop. The mainlines have a 3% max incline and a 245 mm. minimum radius on uphill curves (but note that the downhill spiral has a 4% drop w/ 195 mm). This means you can run extra-long trains with full-sized American-style locomotives -- and, especially if you tether two locomotives as an A-B, you should be able to easily haul 20 American-style freight or 10 American-style passenger cars.
The inner loop has a much tighter 95 mm radius but a number of Z-Scale locomotives can handle that -- our favorite is the Rokuhan T012-4 or the Marklin VW Microbus.
In other words, THIS IS A REAL LAYOUT, one where you can run long American-style trains. We call it OLD GLORY because it was the first personal layout I built for myself and I remain convinced: NO smaller layout can handle what this layout can.
Several notes: The mountain on the right side of the layout is removable to allow for city or industrial modeling if you prefer. In addition, each mainline has a siding with a RERAILER RAMP built into it (one picture shows this). You will be amazed at how much easier that makes it to successfully get equipment onto the track.
Here is a link for THE TRACK PLAN - please note that the actual version is close to this but not identical.
All track and wiring is Rokuhan. The layout requires three power supplies and two turnout controls. For the main lines, we recommend the Rokuhan RC-04 power supply, which comes with built-in turnout controls. For the inner loop, we recommend either the smaller Rokuhan RC02 or the Z Tracks SNAIL controller.
The price listed does NOT include any buildings, rolling stock or power supplies for the track/turn-outs. What the price does include is the hand-ballasted track, two remotely-operated powered turnouts, and all the scenery (including the removable mountain).
In closing, have you seen our YOU TUBE video on our Logan Square Z and N SHOWROOM – where we have 12 trains running on 9 layouts – all at the same time? Here is the link to see it: YOU TUBE VIDEO.
