This layout can run two trains at a time (with a recommended max length of 8 cars each). It is the HOLDING TRACK that makes having two trains share the same track easy (when you want to run just one train and park the other, you can use the holding track). The layout works best in DCC (but our wiring instructions show how it can be run in DC). It gets shipped in 2 sections (with details on this shown below).
 
     This layout is big enough to be a stand alone layout or you can use it to SURROUND one of our  SMALLER N-Scale layouts (N2: Gentle Figure 8 or the N3: Double Oval With Yard). In fact, you can save quite a bit of money  if you buy the combo as a set -- if interested, check out N4: Single Outer Loop and Gentle Figure 8 or  N5: Single Outer loop and Double Loop with Yard or the TRIPLE combo we offer: N6: Stretched Outer Loop with Gentle Figure 8 and Double Loop with Yard.
 
     In other words, what we offer is a system you can EXPAND over time--and where you could end up with a very large, fully integrated layout, all accumulated one piece at a time.

This N1: Single Oval w Holding Track is one of our SHIPPABLE LARGE LAYOUTS. By that we mean that we  can take a big layout like this one (83" x 33") and send it WITH FREE SHIPPING as we send it out in stacked sections. Watch THIS VIDEO and look at the pictures above and you will see how easy it is to connect the sections thanks to the use of Adjustable Track.

To summarize, the layout is 83" long by 33" wide with a holding track long enough for trains up to 8 cars long and with curves that are 315 mm. We provide all the internal wiring the layout needs (track feeds and turnout controls). We do not provide any power controllers (either for track or turnouts)  nor do we furnish any locomotives, cars, or buildings. All track is Kato Unitrack.
 
     We highly recommend DCC for this layout, but DC is possible with some "jerry-rigging."      Since the layout comes in sections, we provide scenery material that you can glue down to cover the cracks (watch the video and examine the pictures and you will see how well the cracks can be hidden).
