     This SINGLE TRACK OUTER OVAL features one mainline and a siding  (if you want want one with two tracks, we also sell a DOUBLE TRACK OVAL -- with no siding). The layout is 48" x 24" with no incline and generous curves (220 mm). Check out the video and you will see how serious a train you can run on a layout that big and with curves that gentle. That's right: long trains with American-style locomotives and American-style cars are not only NO PROBLEM, they are what this layout was DESIGNED FOR. 
 
     We would encourage you to watch the video a 2nd time -- this time to focus on what we call the ILLUSION of Z Scale: When you combine one of our inserts with an outer oval, now the mainline train disappears from sight for so long a time that there is no sense of a train chasing its own tail--instead, it now looks, especially when you take one step back, like a train that is a mile away.
 
     As for the siding, it has a non-powered turnout. You could run the layout with a train that can back onto the siding, but our preferred option is to permanently park a second, non-operating locomotive with cars on the siding as a DIORAMA. That is what we think looks best!

     NOTE THAT THIS LISTING INCLUDES THE SINGLE TRACK OVAL AND SIDING but NO insert layouts for the center (there are all sold separately). The price includes the track, a non-powered turnout, a power feed, and all glued-down scenery, including the hand-ballasted track (but with no buildings, power control, locomotives, or train cars). 
 
     We hope you will also check out all of the smaller insert layouts we sell, like the ELONGATED FIGURE 8, the BOOKCASE Line, or the TRUNK LINE (train in a tree) -- This outer loop layout was designed to surround any of them.   In fact, if you will revisit the video, you will see that our favorite option is to have this layout on the outside with the Elongated Figure 8 inside it - -- giving you room for 1) industrial modeling on the left, 2) natural beauty (Crater Mountain and Lake) in the middle, and 3) residential modeling (Crater Lake Village) on the right, and now we call that layout  Z7: Crater Lake Village -- and, if you buy those two layouts as a set, you save $200.00.
 
     One note: because each layout is custom built, there will be some difference in appearance between the layout you get and the one used for the original video and pictures.
